Jeff,

Several years ago, the wife of one of my co-workers went off of wheat for a couple of months. At this point, when she tried eating wheat, she because violently ill. As it turns out, she became allergic to wheat. Even the small amounts of wheat that are present in some salad dressings caused a violent reaction. As far as I know, she was never able to eat wheat again. She's not the only person I've heard about that had something like this happen.

Be careful with the "fad" diets, where you completely change what you're eating, and remove some item completely from your diet.

And keep in mind, cereal can be had with many different kinds of grain, amounts of sugar and fiber. Some are far healthier than others.

Just my two cents.

Going off cereal is the only change of a diet that already leans Paleo. I don't think I'm allergic to wheat. But X-Mas morning I ate 5 slices of sourdough French toast. God it was good.

Wife now gluten-free, feels much better. I'm now milk/cottage cheese/ice cream/yogurt-free, and no more morning snot, phlegm, sneezing after the second day. It's been about 6 months, and the few times I've fallen off the wagon, I have immediately had the above attractive reactions. It only took me years and years to figure this out. Protein in the breakfast keeps me going till 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon. Yea, BACON! Go, EGGS! Cereal breakfast runs out of steam about 10:00 a.m. I wonder whether the carb level of our modern diet is responsible for diabetes increase? I just about pass out after a high-carb meal. Of course, I am an old, so I just about pass out from time to time anyway, especially if I take a large helping of recliner.
