Ahh, a sad thing - an awesome watch, but I hear you. I'll be putting a couple SAS up soon.
By the way, that's a bit different than my F0010, which doesn't have the date or retrograde and is thus more minimalist and classic looking. I'm a bit mixed on those retrogrades as they look a bit like a smiley face. The oversized version of the F0010 is the F0007, I believe. I think the 1584 is the more recent replacement.

I'm leaning that way, but part of me thinks the ideal watch should be about $250 since they are all going to be subject to wear. Perhaps over $500 a watch becomes a museum piece. Of course price is all relative.

One thought that came to mind is that if you buy the Benarus you're going to open up a whole complex of psychological factors with regards to watch obsession that you can't quite predict. For instance, not only will you be upping your "chimeric quality level" but you'll own a timepiece that's worth two or three times more tan any other and you might find yourself afraid to wear it except on very rare occasions.
But maybe that's a good thing? Maybe this will be your crown jewel that you cherish and wear only for special occasions and/or those days where you want that extra something?
If you buy the Benarus I'll envy you but not envy you.

A more conservative choice would be to get a Seiko SRH001, but finding one for $600 is hard these days. I saw them at this price 2 months ago, but now I only see one for well over $700.

Nice watch. I love the Velatura "body" (meaning overall shape, with case and bracelet) - in particular the way it broadens at the lugs and then flares out with the shrouded crown.
You could also appease your appetite more affordably with a Seiko SKA421.

I need a lot of wow in this chimera watch to make up for the selling off of several watches I currently own. I'm still hunting and remembering what Kierkegaard said: "Fulfillment is in the wish."
