Jeff - I like solar quartz watches, because you don't have to crack them open to replace the battery every two or three years, and possibly compromise their water resistance in the process.

herculodge

Gary, that is an important consideration especially if you don't know the talent level of your watch repair person.

If you want to be pushed over the edge on this one, check out this video:

That's a really nice watch.

If I sell my watches with legit buyers on eBay, I might pull the trigger on one.

Want to sell your Velatura to me to help foot the bill? As I detail in my wishlist, I want to get one of three Velaturas and it all depends upon which I can find for the right price first.

Nah, it's a keeper, one of those Seikos, as you've described, that becomes more and more appealing with time.

jonnybardo

Right, I hear that. The thing is, I've found that ALL of my Seikos become more appealing the more I "open my eyes" to them. This happens with some Invictas, but it seems a minority.

Jonny: I like my two Invictas very much----but I think the reason the Seikos grow more appealing over time while the Invictas largely don't----is because the Seikos have less "bling" factor. Out of the gate/out of the box, bling factor grabs one's attention and affection. Often, over time----those "things bling" start to wear thin. On the other hand, Seiko seems to offer function and quality in an understated way---that tends to grow on the owner. Going back to the cars analogy, that works so well in comparison with watches----the car that relies on a lot of toys and bling to close the sale doesn't wear as well as the car that is less show and more go. After a few years of ownership----the little functional features and placement of switches----quality of finish and reliability----win over an owner and make the owner want another one of those cars. The "blingy" car, even if it's competent---doesn't age as well.
