I tried two samples of the $17 Casio MRW200H-7EV -- the white-faced diver watch. With both of them the second hand ticks midway between the dial markers. It's as if they made no attempt to align the second hand at all. If they're not going to bother to align the second hand with the markers, I wish they'd just omit the second hand entirely. It was worth a try, but I'll be sending them back for a refund.
The interesting thing about this is that the maximum error possible with a 1 second tick is 1/2 second, and with both of these watches the second hand was off 1/2 second over most of the dial. Even if they aligned the second hand randomly, you'd expect less than 1/2 second of error on average. Maybe there was a problem at the Casio factory during this production run that caused the second hands to be misaligned by a consistent amount. I did find a review of the similar black-faced model on Amazon in which the reviewer complained about a misaligned second hand.
It's too bad, because it's a nice looking watch for the money, and the day and date readouts were perfectly aligned on both samples.
