I spoke with an executive from our NY office today----she and her husband also have jewelery stores in the NY area that sell a lot of watches (including Rolex and others----and she even has at least one Rolex). I asked her what "expensive" watch would be the one to buy if cost was no object. Without hesitation, she said Panerai----said they make "really good watches----well built." She mentioned another brand I had never heard of that sells watches in the five figure range----probably up to 50K.
Sylvester Stallone is a big fan of Panerai. It's a beautiful watch although considered quite a mainstream choice in the upper echelons of society. If you're still yearning for a behemoth of a watch but also want the high-end credentials, the Oris Pro Diver chronograph is a steal at $3000, a 1000m depth rating and 51mm in diameter.
