I was wondering if it's better to keep my auto watches running all the time or give them a rest, let them hibernate so to speak. Watchuseek discussion argues that giving them a rest is better for their longevity. The more you use it, the more you have to maintain it, the logic goes.

Conversely, if you keep it running, the individual parts remain evenly lubricated, as opposed to the oil "pooling" in a watch that isn't ticking. I read somewhere that if you start using a watch after being dormant for a long period, you must allow time for the oils to redistribute before the watch reverts to its usual level of accuracy.
