In spite of good reviews for the Altec Lansing Boombox iMT800 and iMT810 models, there are reports on Amazon and elsewhere that the power adapter doesn't work, either immediately or right after the warranty expires. Another complaint: Absolutely no customer service, no response to emails, calls, etc. Too bad. Seems like a nice boombox otherwise.
The only other game in town for a new boombox is the JVC Kaboom, which costs considerably more.
A much cheaper alternative that's still easily available is the Sony Xplod. It doesn't have a dedicated Iphone/Ipod port, but it does have an Aux in, as well as a cassette deck. The sound is very good, and the AM/FM Tuner is quite capable.
I have two of them, bought about 3 years apart, the only change seems to be a dumbing-down of the remote. It's no longer possible to direct access a CD track or preset, you have to scroll via the up and down buttons.
Currently $129.95 @ Sony, but it's occasionally on sale for $99.95, a real bargain at that price.
