I will second the recommendation. AM reception than you have any right to expect from this type of radio, the speaker sound is outstanding. The tuning on mine is a bit touchy, but overall, it is a very good value.

I have a GPX (normally a poor-quality brand) pocket radio that I suspect is really this Sangean, rebadged. Very nice reception and audio for a small radio.

Speaking of portables, I recently had the chance to pick up a mint condition Panasonic rf-066 - what an amazing little receiver! They really don't make them like this any more. It is easily my most sensitive portable on AM, more sensitive than the sangean dt-400w. Of course it's analog, which is annoying for some (but with a sweet Casio-esque digital clock with sleep timer and "doze"!). I love it. Grab one if you see one. Very sensitive and it doesn't drift.

Yes, this is positively the best sounding pocket radio I've ever heard. It has decent reception and is sharp looking, too.
