I'm wearing a 1970s era Timex today. It's mod looking---big chrome bezel, sort of a modified octagon shape and small round crystal, date window diagonal between the 4/5 indicies, though there are no numbers on the dial. Anyway, I bought this watch on the cheap----used on E-Bay. It has a 36 hour mainspring, which fascinates me. I've had wind-up watches in the past (and still have some today) and I don't think any of them run this long after a winding. It keeps good time too. My point is that I can switch between this relatively small watch----and a mammoth Tauchmeister. The $200.00 Tauchmeister is "expensive" in my world. I don't mind switching between my inexpensive watches and those I consider better, like a Movado that was expensive (gift). With watches and with radios----I try to buy with an eye toward some feature that appeals to me and makes me want to use and keep the item. So even on my bottom feeder hobby items---there is some redeeming quality that keeps me interested and happy----and able to use or wear what I have. I think in some cases (probably most), as hobbyists move upmarket, it becomes more and more difficult for them (you guys!) to be content with anything less. That's understandable----and it makes sense. Once you've dated Megan Fox, it's hard to go back to Plain Jane the bank teller.

Yeah but the cheap watches don't have cool names
like the "Black Ninja Combat Annihilator MK3".

Michael: Not true. I like the "Shark Army Avenger" and it's cheap:

I actually own a Shark watch----not bad at all for the low price. A great beater watch.

A hundred and twenty bucks, shipping included. To me, this looks like a strong buy. I love the retro '70s dark blue dial but modern everything else. It's a Seiko too. This might not have the bling and "power look" of a similarly priced Invicta, but I think the general goodness of this watch would stand the test of time---and hold up to daily wear if that's how it were to be used. I have a business contact----we compare watches when we have lunch. He showed me a nice looking Invicta he has, but the bezel trim was missing. He said one day, he was walking around and when he got back to his office, it was gone. On any watch costing more than nine dollars, that simply shouldn't happen. It's unacceptable. He said he would try to see if he could contact Invicta to get the part. Good luck with that. I told him maybe a jeweler might have something generic that would fit or something could be made---but wow, what a pain in the...

And to give Invicta equal time...I found this on clearance at Shop NBC (changing its name to SHOP HQ). Funny----this isn't one of those $1000.00 Invictas that sells for a hundred bucks. Instead, it's an Invicta with an under $200.00 "retail" that's selling for a hundred bucks. But the thing is, I like the looks of this Invicta better than some of their pricier offerings. And the fact that it's a "lefty" means nothing. It can be worn on either hand. I have watches with the crowns on the left side----very comfortable because they don't rub against my wrist.
