June 2013 Consumer Reports writes that their tester Mazda 6 to them 44mpg on the highway and 32mpg overall, beating the Nissan Altima's 31mpg. That's amazing for a sporty car with over a 180 hp. I'm especially impressed with their highway numbers. I wonder how soft their foot was on the pedal. I notice my foot has an unusual amount of lead inside it.

I trust CR's mileage ratings more than I do EPA estimates. Sometimes CR gets far less mileage in their testing than the EPA estimate. One example of this disparity is the Ford C-Max. The EPA estimate for overall mileage is 47, but CR only got 37 when they tested it.

It's hard to believe 44 MPG for the 6 is accurate----that's miser territory----Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Toyota Yaris. Makes me wonder if they calculated incorrectly. That just seems like an unreal number.

It will be interesting to see if the Mazda 6 diesel, due later this year, will have even better mileage.
