Addressing my efforts to get more life out of my razors, Ulysses writes:
I vote for DE razors too but the caveat is they're not as safe to use until you're experienced with them. If i'm in a hurry I can't beat a two blade "Sensor" or three blade shave (three blades are overkill though). A DE shave is more enjoyable, almost relaxing, and you don't cut yourself if you take your time.
I also discovered that aloe vera gel is a far more effective and cheaper alternative to shave gel, since it doesn't foam, doesn't dry up and contains no soap so it comes off easily. Better for your skin than all those chemicals too.
Ulysses.....Which specific aloe vera gel do you use for shaving

I have stretched 15 Gillette disposable razors out to almost a year....and in my mind, Barbasol is the cheapest shaving cream out there. (Although it used to be 99 cents with a bigger can, but I digress)

It's cheaper than what I used to use which is "Real Shaving Co." brand in the UK. It's extremely slippery and gives a close shave but has a weird waxy consistency that when it comes in contact with water becomes oily and runs with great ease down your neck, and keeps on going.
You can probably use any brand of aloe as long as it has that gel-like consistency. Safety issues with aloe are moot unless you try eating it for some reason. I use Holland and Barrett branded stuff which is better value if you exploit their frequent sales (buy one get one half price, or two for the price of one plus a penny). In the US i'm sure you have far more choice when it comes to suppliers.

I also use Barbasol or a store brand shaving cream. I would like to try aloe vera gel to see if i get a better shave.

I'm thinking a good deal on aloe vera gel would cost half of shaving cream.
