So Who's KCRW's 3-6 DJ, Raul Campos or Travis Holcombe?

Travis Holcombe recently took KCRW's 3-6 PM music shift. But he's gone today as Raul Campos is in charge and Campos' name shows up on KCRW's schedule. I love Campos' music, so all is well, but I just want to know: What happened to Holcombe?

Ah, I see. Holcombe has been moved to weeknights between 10-12.

This AM/FM radio is about as sleek as it gets. And I thought my "no knobs" Perseus SDR and utilitarian-looking AOR AR7030+ were minimalist radios!

On the CCrane website we read this description:

Reception and audio are the main reasons to own a better made portable radio. For over 10 years our CCRadio line has had some of the best AM reception available in a radio, along with audio tuned for the human voice. With the new CCRadio-2 Enhanced version, audio can be accurately tuned for realistic human voice. It can also be adjusted for good musical performance! Traditional FM reception is also a full step up in its ability to bring in a weak station clearly. The CCRadio-2E Enhanced also has the weather band/alert along the 2-meter Ham band. The five memory buttons on top of the radio make it easier to change stations rather than front mounted buttons.

The boost in AM performance comes from our patented Twin-Coil Ferrite® AM Antenna. This technology can give a noticeable boost to weak AM signals under most circumstances. After you select a station, the CCRadio-2E evaluates the signal for several seconds and then locks it in for the best possible signal.

The display features a full backlight and three levels of brightness and an "off" setting. When the power is on the display will show the station you are on and then automatically change to the clock after 15 seconds.

The Weather Band, with a very loud alert, can keep you informed of any NOAA alerts. The 2-Meter Ham band may make the CCRadio-2E a life saver during an emergency. Two Meter Ham operators are early on the scene of an emergency and they donate their time while handling perhaps 90% of emergency coordination efforts. The CCRadio-2E makes it easy to hear the vital information they share by acting like a simple radio scanner, searching five progammable memories for Ham operator communications. The CCRadio-2E comes in Black Mica and Titanium color. Features include: 5 memories per band (AM, FM, Weather and 2-Meter bands), adjustable display light, adjustable bass and treble, clock alarm, sleep timer, auto scan, stereo headphone jack, line-input jack, and line-output jack. Runs on included AC power cord or four (optional) "D" batteries.

Feud Brewing Between KPCC's Russ Stanton and The Wrap

LA Observed reports on a feud brewing between KPCC's Russ Stanton and The Wrap regarding a story about internal KPCC problems, including reduced public support in the aftermath of the Madeleine Brand and Pat Morrisson debacles. 

While I still give to KPCC because I like some of the programming, including Larry Mantle, I have to say I hold my nose. I thought Russ Stanton's defense (on Larry Mantle almost a year ago) of ruining Madelein Brand's show sounded unctuous and unconvincing. The loss of Pat Morrison's show is equally a source of displeasure.  

Russ Stanton's aggressive and hostile emails to The Wrap turn me off even more and I'm reaching the point where supporting KPCC is more and more of a struggle.

With Madeleine Brand starting a new show on KCRW soon, supporting that station is a pleasure.

My Favorite Invicta: Blue Offshore Russian Diver

I've got conflicted feelings for Invicta. At times it seems like "all show, no go," but that's an oversimplification. While its lume and customer service are sore points for the watch company, its diverse array produces some attractive timepieces at a competitive pricepoint. 

My Invicta Offshore Russian Diver, blue dial, is probably my very favorite. If I had to get rid of all my Invictas but one, I could see myself keeping this one. While I love my orange and gray Venom, as their stunning over the top pop delivers the fun factor, I'd say that for all things considered--comfort, looks, wearability, I'd give the nod to the Russian Diver (but spare me the chain).

New Internet Radio from Sangean Europe

Sangean Europe is just about to release its new Internet radio, which will have internet radio, digital radio, and FM radio features. The body of the radio seems identical to Sangean America's Sangean PR D15, which again just modified Sangean PR D5. Are the speakers any better? Hard to tell. I am assuming they will release the same radio in US just without the digital component.

As was reported here, CCrane has fixed the medium wave AGC issue on the CC Pocket Radio (item # CCPKT selling for $59.95 on their site).

I wrote to them asking about how can one tell the difference between the old, and updated models. This is their reply:

The easiest way to determine if the CC Pocket Radio (item # CCPKT for $59.95):http://www.ccrane.com/radios/pocket-radios/cc-pocket-radio.aspx has the upgraded MW AGC is to look at the round push button presets on the front of the radio. If they are blank then they are from our first shipment. If the round push button presets are numbered the radio has all the updates.
