Sabra's red pepper hummus & pretzels are only 260 calories, that's a perfectly do-able mid-afternoon snack..

Edit: Oh wait, it's 380 calories; that is a bit much, but with a little calorie borrowing from breakfast and lunch, could be done..

Most packaged pretzels aren't a bad snack, nutritionally. The sodium is high----but if that isn't a health concern, the fact that they are zero fat or low fat is certainly good if your're worried about weight gain. Exceptions are soft pretzels----particularly Auntie Annie's, which are soaked in butter. I liked those when I first had them----but burned out on them. Now, the buttery grease rupulses me. And for some reason, they don't keep a supply on hand that hasn't been ruined by the butter bath. They dip them all as soon as they come out of the oven. If you're lucky enough with timing, you can intercept one before they dip it---still sickeningly sweet dough though. I prefer good old Philadelphia style dry soft pretzels.

Hummus and pretzels are ~400 calories, entirely do-able with your 1600 cal/day diet; three 300 calorie meals, your pretzel snack, and you still have room for a 300 calorie dessert..

StarHalo, if I ate 3 500-calorie meals, 1 400-calorie snack, and a 300-calorie dessert, totaling 2,200 calories, I would be svelte. The problem is that I have the appetite of a teenage football player.

Don't forget the greens, you can have an unlimited amount of salad and zero-cal veggies; a salad with each of your later meals can make a big difference, and a cold cut sandwich is a lot more filling with lettuce, pickles, some hot mustard, etc. And beverages, always have a large cup of something zero-cal with you at all times, it can cut down on hunger significantly. I'm currently into Liquid Crystal Light Strawberry Lemonade, perfect for hot weather and not a single calorie..

This is not the manliest thread I have read on this site. Sounds more like a Weight Watchers meeting.

Which is more manly, a fat middle aged guy or a well-built gent?

My choice for hummus dipping is Nabisco's Wheat Thins, and with Rachael Ray on the box how can I resist? Subtract 1,000 man points for me!

Well you definitely don't lose any man points from looking at Rachael Ray..

Hummus with carrots is almost as good as pretzels.

Star Halo: Completely agree. Rachael seems like the type who could kick back and suck down a couple beers and split a large bowl of pretzel nubs too. And watch the game. And know what's going on with the game.
