Yes, but then being manly isn't popular in general any more. Typically masculine traits are often derided while men with more feminine-leaning attributes are considered popular, especially by younger women. There are conspicuous exceptions, of course. Over the years we have become more like cattle than the lions we used to be.

In the past the pressure to "be a man" was a heavy burden for many men. It no doubt lead to lots of heavy drinking, wife beating, child abuse, violence, crime and suicide. I don't think it's all that bad that some of those unrealistic expectations placed on men have been lifted. A lot of it was just bullshit.

The writer and creator of Breaking Bad said in an interview that his show's major theme is the worthlessness a lot of middle-aged men feel and the show resonates with the public because the protagonist's struggle mirrors a lot of people.
