Last night around 7 PM I noticed terrible RFI on the AM band at my house, while it was fine a few hours earlier. The noise remains this morning, so it's probably not a bad streetlight. It makes my strong stations like KFI 640 and KNX 1070 very noisy. KSPN 710, an even stronger station at this location, is worse. The noise seems to be coming through my house wiring, and is heard in all rooms in the house. So far, I'm unable to find any device in my house that's causing it. To be sure, I'd have to turn off all the breakers in the house, which is something I might try some other day when it's not so hot. It may be something in a neighbor's house (e.g., a dimmer switch set very low) or an equipment malfunction (e.g., bad transformer) on So Cal Edison's grid.
After seeing Jay Allen's favorable review of the CCRadio-2E I was thinking of buying one, but with RFI like this it would be wasted money.

Another casualty of this RFI is the automatic time setting feature of my Casio PAW2000 watch. Except for last night, I think it has set itself every night since I've received it (by synchronizing with WWVB on 60 kHz).

The nasty noise was still present early this morning, but by 10:30 AM it had disappeared. I never did figure out what caused it, but I'm glad it's gone.
