Yesterday I lamented that my Fellowes paper shredder, after two and a half years, died. My wife said, Not so fast, buster. She checked it out and told me there are not one but two power switches. She turned on the power switch on the rear bottom and, presto, it turned on.
I can only imagine my Man Points are lost forever. But, hey, I don't have to buy a new paper shredder.
Next question: Why does Fellowes see fit to put two power switches on a paper shredder?

Most have a safety switch that disengages when the basket and the shredder head are disengaged to empty the basket. Thus disabling the main power switch (again, this is a safety feature). When you put them back together the safety switch fits in a little slot which engages it so the main power switch will again work. Had several shredders and that is how they all worked.

The second power switch is a safety feature, so untrained folk in an office situation/kids in a house situation can't just casually switch it on and use it at will.
Now inform your wife of this factoid and let her know it was just the folly of your youth.

At least she didn't open a jar of peanut butter for you. As long as you retain the edge in brute force, you'll keep some of your man points.
If you want to hear about losing man points, last night my wife and I went out for drinks with a friend. He ordered wine, my wife an indian pale ale, and I a...strawberry martini.
