Motobras RM PF121AC
Today many products are made in one manufacture and are sold with different brand names; like Grundig , Tecsun, Redsun etc.
Motobras is one of manufactures that is still surviving against the tight market and makes their original products for Brazilian market. It attracted me to buy Motobras radio.
My big thanks to Solange from Motobras who helped me to buy Motobras RM PF121AC and sent it to me with professional packaging.
I compared Motobras RM PF121AC with my analog SW AM FM receiver: Tecsun R-9700DX (shortwave dual conversion). I didn't take the price into the consideration because the radio was made for a different market with different economical structures.
FM: Motobras Frequency scale designed for Brazil, not for North America. It includes TV signal frequencies on the same FM scale.
I got all my local FM stations with very strong reception. I enjoy the sound that makes perfect recognition of natural instrument filled my room with warm sound.
Tecsun R-9700DX has pretty good receptions on FM and some points outperform Motobras, but it doesn't have a volume controller. I give preference to Motobras over Tecsun.
SW: Motobras is not a dual conversion receiver like Tecsun R-9700DX. Tecsun R-9700DX has advantage with low noise on SW. Selectivity of two receivers provably are similar but sensitivity are different. I found Motobras gets more stations from clutters of weak signals. I have been able to recognize different stations with using the very sensitive tone control.
AM(MW) Motobras has strong performance on MW band. The selective and sensitive receiver with tone controller gives me enjoyable evening broadcasting even with weak stations. Unfortunately in the city Tecsun R-9700DX is more overload on MW bands even to tune to local stations.
Motobras RM PF121AC is precise on the frequency scale. When I tried to get SW or MW bands I didn't have problems to find selective frequency. Tecsun R-9700DX is not so accurate but still has descent precision for an analog radio.
In few words to say: I like Motobras RM PF121AC. I wish they have designed the receiver a little-bit different such as not making just solid plastic and making the antenna stay more firm, but for its performance I can't complain.
RM PF121AC is a nice light weight receiver, with long battery life and internal adapter for 220 or 110 volts. The AC works perfectly with $1 plug adapter. As I mentioned before tone controller makes possible to listen many stations even with weak reception and really enjoy classical music and jazz FM. Motobras makes good analog receivers. I am very happy to have this radio.

Val mentions a bit of disappointment that there is so much plastic comprising the cabinet/controls of this radio---and maybe a cheaper antenna mount that makes for a little loose feel. It'll be interesting to see if over the long term and lots of use, this radio holds up well----both the electronics and the switchgear. Interestingly, I have some radios from the '70s that remind me of this one----budget manufacturers who might have cut corners on the things Val mentions. Cheaper plastic than Panasonic or Sony used, all plastic/no metal (or just tiny amounts of thin aluminum as trim), noticeable quality differences, such as loose antenna mounts. But you know what? It appears they put the money on the INSIDE of these radios because they are well used, I still use them----and the electronic performance is still excellent.

I live in Brazil and I love this MOTOBRAS radio.
It will be changer for other model, but it´s a good receptor, very resistant and you will use its for long time.
You have purchased a product made in fair trade. It´s good.

Look at this site radios in Brazil:
http://www.poneradio.com.br/produtos.php
It has modern radios in older models. They are manufactured by PONERADIO, a company in Brazil as MOTOBRAS.
