A few weeks ago on Herculodge, I promised to send a photo of my new pursuit----one that should bolster any guy's sense of masculinity. I've been on a buying binge of kitchen accessories lately. I've been doing a lot more cooking at home, and getting excited about it, meaning it's been a good excuse to pick up a few George Foreman grill products, a bread maker, vintage Vitamix power blender, mandolin slicer----and more. You might be asking, what does this have to do with being manly? If anything, it sounds quite the opposite---putting on an apron in the kitchen. Well, look no further than the photo. Cleavers. Meat cleavers. BIG meat cleavers. Take a hard whack at a roasted whole chicken to separate it. Chop the head and tail off a fish. Go tribal. These cleavers are no dainty Euro cutlery set in a designer wood block. These things are brutes. I love the old Made in U.S.A. "Foster Brothers" cleavers. They are excellent quality----some of them dating back to the 1800s. You can also find cleavers that were hand-made-----fashioned as one-offs by butchers or farm hands. Those are on E-Bay....no "manufacturer" except a guy in his barn or garage work bench. Then there are the great German, French and Italian cleavers. Some come from the East Block too. China and Japan have their own models. I heartily recommend this if you need a jolt of manhood!

Now you're talking. Good thing you're not a vegetarian, because cleaving a Tofurky isn't quite as manly.
Speaking of food, my wife and I are trying the "Fast Metabolism Diet." She wants to lose 15, I want to lose 50. Anyhow, some of my co-workers have been doing it; one lost 40 lbs, another 25. We're only on Day 3 and it is very hard, especially as a vegetarian. But seeing my co-workers' weight loss is inspiring.

I told my students yesterday that 225 pound McMahon is not as happy as 200 pound McMahon because we are always happier when we are in control. 225-250 pound McMahon is an out of control McMahon.
I hope your new diet works. Let us know.
