I loved the look of my Seiko Tuna on the soft rubber strap. It is one of the most comfortable straps I've worn, but steel bracelets are more comfortable for me.
Rubber tends to get hot and in some cases result in a slight itch, especially in warm weather. So I "suffer" wearing my bracelets. More First World Problems, as Jonny likes to joke about as watch obsessives try to navigate their watch "problems."

Personally I like the lightness and flexibility of a leather or rubber strap, but I can't wear them. My skin reacts badly to being covered so tightly all day, especially in warm weather. We're talking more than just itching.
Metal bracelets don't do that. Fabric is good too but most of the fabric I've seen is bulky and anything but formal.
I saw a watch band once I thought might be a great compromise. It was made of woven wire mesh, something like a cross between window screen and chain mail. Unfortunately it was used for style on a rather cheesy fashion watch. But it seems to me that such a band, done in stainless gray or in black, could be almost as light, flexible, and water resistant as a rubber band, while breathing as well as a fabric band, and looking more formal than either.
