Do you have a mirror in the shower?

herculodge

No, but I can open the shower door and look in the medicine chest mirror easy enough.

Regarding 16 gigs, the apple saleseman told us to stick to 32, so we did with our ipad and it's worked out for the girls.

Which brand of blades are you using?

herculodge

First I used the supplied Merkur; and now I'm using Derby. Both are equally effective. I bought 100 Derby blades on Amazon for under 12 dollars. I go through a blade a week, so that is 6 dollars a year for a superior shave to the overpriced Mach 3s and Quadras, etc.,

They do make those fog resist mirrors you can hang on the shower head neck or just stick in any convenient place in the shower.

Are the blades single edge or double edge?

I noticed some of the safety razors say that they are "adjustable". Do you know what that refers to?

(Currently I use Wilkinson twin blade disposable plastic razors. My cost is about $0.20 per twin blade which works out to $0.10 to $0.20 per shave as I use each twin blade once (or maybe twice if I sharpen them on some old blue jeans material). They work acceptably, are convenient to use, I rarely cut myself and there is no learning curve. They are not easy to clean but I often use them just once anyways in which case its not a factor. My cost is fairly low already and there is no capital cost although it does seem that your safety razor approach is cheaper still over a period of time.)

The Derby are double-edge blades and cost less than 10 dollars for 100: http://www.amazon.com/Derby-Extra-Double-Razor-Blades/dp/B004SGKMA0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403539717&sr=8-1&keywords=derby+double+edge+razor+blades

A. Black:

Adjustable double edge razors have a way to expose a bit more or a bit less of the blade, to make the shave "more aggressive" or "less aggressive." More aggressive means you can shave more quickly and perhaps more closely, but your risk of skin irritation and nicks is somewhat higher.

IIRC Jeff is using a Merkur Barber Pole, which is not adjustable: http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Heavy-Barber-Safety-Chrome/dp/B002RBGYXW

My double edge razor is a Merkur Progress, their most basic adjustable: http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Progress-Long-Handle-Adjustable-Safety/dp/B003SISMJC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403561393&sr=8-1&keywords=merkur+progress+long

No two faces are alike. Also, since companies all over the world have been making double edge razor blades since the early 1900s, there's variation in their thickness and so on, so that one combination of blade and razor might not work (at all or just for you) while another would be fine. The ways to combat this are adjustable razors, which allow you to adjust for slight variations in personal technique or in the blades; and blade samplers, sold by companies such as Amazon or West Coast Shaving, which allow you to buy one pack each of several different brands of blades, to allow you to find a combination that works well for you.
