I may have to go to Home Depot and check out this $45 Work Force 20-inch floor fan. The Vornado in the living room is just okay but its 10-inch blades are too small. My only concern about the 20-inch is the noise even on the lowest setting may be too loud to hear the TV. We shall see.
On a related note as I was reading Amazon reviews of the Lasko 20-inch floor fans, one customer wrote this terse review: "The fan fell apart. Thanks, Obama."
Don't get me wrong----I blame Obama for a lot too----but how is he responsible for a Lasko fan falling apart? I would love to know.

Well, I owe quite a debt of gratitude to a Lasko Floor fan. After Hurricane Irene hit in 2011 (much worse here in Central NJ than Sandy a year later), we had about 2 inches of water in our finished basement. Mostly due to the sump pump not working due to no power. We were able to hook on to a neighbor's generator to pump the water out. We knew we had to use a powerful fan to completely dry out the place ASAP to avoid mold and permanent damage.
Only problem was no fans left in any stores within 100 miles of here. We ordered a Lasko 3300 from Amazon. It cost us $40 for the fan and $40 for overnight shipping. It arrived first thing the next morning. We ran the thing for 3 days straight without a glitch. It did the job. Three years later it's still working fine.
Thank you Lasko and thank you Amazon.

It's probably noisy, but that's the price one pays for an effective fan. The 12-inch blade Vornado isn't powerful enough to reach me on the couch at mid setting and at high setting it's very loud, so I might as well get a 20-inch Lasko.
