Wearing my new Deep Blue Depthmaster with blue dial and black ionic coating today, I approached my wife at her computer, showed her the watch, and said, "What do you think?"
"Why is it glowing so much?" she asked, looking at it as if I had smuggled an illegal exotic creature from Thailand.
"Because it has professional-grade Superluminova," I gloated.
Still taken aback by the shining beast, my wife said, "But isn't that glowing thing going to piss people off inside movie theaters?"
"You're just making me love it all the more," I gleefully responded.
I was in love with this beast right out of the box. The contrast of the glowing markers with the radiant blue dial and black ionic coating is stunning.
At 49mm, I'll call it close enough to belong to my 50mm Case Club: My Citizen EcoZilla on the Suppa, my Citizen Promaster BN2029, and the up and coming Benarus Megalodon, 2014 version.
For Christmas, you should ask for a message T-Shirt, in big lettering: "GOT LUME?"
Wear the t-shirt and the watch to the movies.

Awesome, Jeff - it really looks like your "perfect" all-black watch. Deep Blue is good at making big, flashy watches that are still mellow enough not to be too Miami Beach (like Invicta).
I love the blue dial and overall color scheme. Very striking.

That's a big, beefy dive watch, Jeff. I looked at this model -- I think it was the right one -- on Deep Blue's web site, and it shows that the bezel is completely lumed as well. I didn't see this particular color scheme on their web site. Where did you buy it?

I looked again. I think this is the model you bought.

I must have been looking at the 1st generation model before.

I bought it on Shop HQ. I love it. Perhaps my favorite watch ever.

Paul, that Onion piece is brilliant. I imagine those writers go on to work for Colbert and Stewart.

I'm glad you love it so much, Jeff. You've had a couple near misses with Deep Blue, but this one seems to have hit the spot. I wonder how it will impact your collection and collecting going forward.

It affirms my love for large timepieces with big lume, that's for sure.

Last night I spotted a good deal on a more modest dive watch: the Citizen Eco-Drive BN0100-00E. The bezel on this model is reminiscent of the Seiko Sumo. The hour markers and case diameter are similar to some of the Omega Seamaster models. The handset is unique. This model doesn't appear on the Citizen U.S. web site, but here is the info on their Australian web site.

NYWatchStore.com recently dropped the price to $134. It had been $161. I don't think they are an authorized Citizen dealer, but they do offer a 90-day return policy. (I don't think any of the dealers that offer a big discount on this watch are authorized.)

This seems like a good deal for what should be a durable and trouble free watch, with classic dive watch styling.

Good. You've come back out of the Big Watch Closet.
