Trying to establish that fine line between obsessive hobby and self-destructive, endless consumerism, I find that watch obsessives, including me, need to slow down by taking stock of what they have. Endless lust after new lineups of watches (like cars, gadgets and anything else) can make us die to the treasures that are already in our presence.
Rather than go on some wild-goose chase for the latest Seiko SUN019, I've decided to put the kabosh on that (it looks like a cross between my Seiko Tuna and my Orient Saturation Diver, so in a way I already own the watch sans the kinetic charge anxieties) consumer "opportunity."
Certain idiot watch savants should from time to time take inventory of their prized possessions and focus on them rather than going on another watch chimera quest.
I agree with you, of course, but the trick is can you say this after not buying a watch for a few months? It is easy for a fat man to say "I need to take a break and go on a diet" after eating a large pizza and a pint of ice cream, but what about the next day?
p.s. The Fieldmaster has really grown on me. If it came with a bracelet and didn't have the two-tone bezel, it would be hard for me to refuse.
p.p.s. The Tuna still beckons...

p.p.p.s. The SUN019 looks more like a glorified Sawtooth to me. I don't quite like it, at least nowhere near as much as the Tuna or OSD.

I agree with the post, but it's very difficult. It's more difficult for me than it is for you guys, because I spend a lot less per watch than you do----so it's no sweat to spend $150.00 on something---far less drama then when you're in the higher hundreds, up to over 1K. It's an easier decision to give in and buy. But it's also a great feeling pulling one of my watches out that I haven't worn in a while---and appreciating why I bought it to begin with----getting a great day of wear from it.

Angelo, I hear that. Purchasing on the Invicta Sunday Run was like popcorn - $76 here, $113 there. No sweat.
My income level also changed after my initial watch phase because my wife went back to work when our younger daughter turned 3ish (she'll be 6 in a few weeks).
