The new Shortwave Receivers Past & Present book is out, covering communications receivers from 1942-2013.
So here is the older version of the same book which goes up to 1997. I did not scan it; I just found it on the web on a site, and made it a clean searchable PDF:

I agree (re Lexon Mezzo). Sometimes cheap-looking radios are good performers, but not often.
