My California King bed with high coil count and all that good stuff currently has a 3-inch foam mattress pad. I sleep on my side and by 3AM or so my hips and sometimes my shoulders hurt from the pressure points. I turn on my other side and within a few hours I'm hurting there as well. I can't sleep on my back because of lower back pain and snoring.
My solution was to buy a 4-inch mattress pad (arriving tomorrow) and some extra deep pocketed sheets. One set of such sheets arrived today and while the pockets seem larger than the previous "deep" pocket sheets, they fit rather snug with the current 3-inch mattress pad and I can't imagine them fitting with the 4-incher that arrives tomorrow.
I'm beginning to wonder if there are sheets deep enough for a 4-inch mattress pad. Any recommendations?
I can't answer your question, but will say that we just entered the realm of Middle Age Accessories with Tempurpedic pillows (my wife bought one for herself, and after "stealing" it for a night we bought one for me the next day) and a Visco Elastic memory foam mattress pad as well. It is almost like sleeping in a snug mold. Definitely recommended, although not cheap - I believe the pillows were $70 each and the mattress pad heavily discounted at $175. We got this one:

By the way, here's a new watch in the "affordable Monster family":

There are a few variants, but the SRP599 is the classic silver and black dial. I've seen it for as low as $158 at Creation Watches.

My wife also looked up ways to combat hip pain from sleeping and she saw that it's common with pregnant women so I need to lose weight.

We've got four Tempurpedic pillows in the house and a 3 inch memory foam topper. I think I need to lose weight.
I think Invicta is going to reach a point where they can't sell 60mm plus watches.

I don't like the Seiko 5 line with the exception of the SKZ255, a watch I probably should have bought when I could have gotten one for 250.

The Frankenmonsters still show up every once in awhile. Seems like something you should pick up at some point.
But about Seiko 5s, I hear you. On one hand they're affordable with a wide diversity of styles. On the other hand, it is a quantity-over-quality thing. Some nice styles, but mostly just variety. Plus once you pass the "Sumo Threshold," $150-250 watches just don't have the same quality of craftsmanship.
Big watches are still popular, but fashion trends change. But yeah, eventually 60mm watches will probably be seen as gauche.
So you're essentially a pregnant woman?

When a man is too heavy to enjoy a good night's sleep without hip pain, then he is for all practical purposes pregnant.
I miss the Sumo.

No you don't. Or rather, you miss the IDEA of the Sumo.
Posted by: jonnybardo | November 17, 2014 at 11:09 AM
Yeah, the idea of the Sumo, the OSD and the Tuna in my rotation and nothing else. If I bought another Sumo it wouldn't get enough wrist time.

That would be a sweet, all-Japan rotation. But what of your SUN019? The Deep Blue? Fieldmaster? Benari? Where to draw the line?
I've been wearing my Zixen a lot the last few days and boy, what a watch - what a bezel. It reminds me that watches fall in and out of favor within a collection; I was on the verge of selling it, but now its the toolish foil for the Omega Hegemony.

I have too many watches to keep track of. I needed something to be the foil against my Seiko Hegemony and my Diver Hegemony in general. A Tauchmeister and Chotovelli, both military style, are coming to the rescue, and then I'll be cured and will stop buying watches.

You bought a Chotovelli? They look like nicely designed watches although I wonder about the quality, if they'll feel cheap.
My collection was stuck at 13 but "ballooned" to 14, which is just too much. I want to get it down to single digits and then re-assess. 7-9 sounds good to me, with a hard cap at 10.

The Chotovelli Torino was 150 on Amazon. I couldn't resist. My collection will be up to 14 soon. It always feels like too many.

Jeff,
Amazon has several Chotovelli Torino models for $150. Which one did you buy?
Posted by: Gary | November 17, 2014 at 06:08 PM
Gary, here it is. I've seen it for about 5 years. It's 52mm. Finally pulled the trigger at 150: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DRG2VO2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
