My twins had a five-day fever last week. Today is my fifth day and I feel worse today than I did yesterday. I heard this flu mutates and is especially virulent. I haven't been this sick from the flu in 19 years. Tomorrow I go the doctor to see if I have any secondary infections. My blog is on hiatus.

I had a NASTY flu bug last year around this time. Could barely get out of bed for 4 days and ran a steady 102.7 fever. When it finally broke I had secondary bronchitis which lasted for a few weeks.

Not sure what's going on this year...I rarely get the flu, like evey 10 years. I have had it twice this year. 2nd time was extremely rough, was in bed for 4 days.
Hang in there, it does end...but if it mimics what I had, it is at least to weeks to full recovery.

I believe it's going to take 2 weeks. Thanks, for the info.

Get well soon, all of you. I never get the flu, but I would suspect infections are proportional to how many people you interact with on a daily basis - more interactions with unfamiliar people leading to greater potential exposure.

Since I had twins 5 years ago, I've become more exposed.

Little kids are germ buckets. We have thankfully avoided a major illness this winter (so far), although both of them did have the whooping cough in late summer/early fall. That was fun.

This is one of the worst flu viruses I've ever suffered. If I were in my 80s, it may have killed me. I feel better today. I still have chills, sweats, and cough, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I may have missed this earlier but did you get your flu shot? May not have helped in this case. Like yourself I'm in my early 50's with a little one, 6 year old girl, and I'm fortunate enough to still have a mom nagging me to get a shot, I heeded her advice and no issues so far. Hope you and your family rebound quickly.

Our family and I got the flu shot as we do every year; however, this year there is a virulent strain of flu not covered by the shot, and I presumably got that flu. I'm on the mend though I currently have lost my voice.

I don't care that the crappy cassette player isn't working. This thing is a beast.

Jeff: I hope you're on the mend. I'm often in the same boat, I see my twins get a fever--perhaps a day or two apart--next goes my wife, then I fall last. I'm so glad I haven't gotten the flu strain you've been fighting. I hate the flu.

Thanks, Thomas. I'm slowly getting better. This is on the short list for worst flus I've had. I'm glad it didn't hit me during a later time in my life in which case I might not have made it. What's sad is my flu shot proved useless this year.

I'm concerned because my 10 year old and I both got flu shots----but it seems as though they don't even work, at least not this year? WTF? When is this crappy flu season over anyway?
By the way, for those of you looking for a radio that's capable and a little different than the normal Zenith, Sony, Panasonic, GE...check this out. If you don't mind that it's made in Portugal and not Germany, it might be worth a bid. And I did own a Made in Portugal Grundig at one time and it was an excellent sounding radio----very good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Grundig-Music-Boy-1100-Multiband-radio-034-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-034-/231461828073?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

Angelo,
This explains the issue with this year's flu shots:
