My obsessive personality, usually locked on watches, has inexplicably turned to Chukkas, which I find strange since I never owned a pair. In the fifth grade, 1971, some of the boys bragged about their "waffle stompers."
Research for the Chukka Grail has been daunting. Reviews evidence that Chukka wearers are as fanatical as watch enthusiasts.
Here are some brands that piqued my interest: Clarks Exton, Lacoste Sherbrooke Hi 13, Geox U Zal, Ugg Leighton, Ted Baker Torsdi 2, Frye Jim, Fry Phillip, Red Wing Heritage, Trask Gary, Danner Tramline.
I could see myself owning a dozen pair and starting a Chukka blog. Go figure.
The old "Hanover Shoes" made an excellent chukka (I had a pair of those) and Hush Puppies is another source. I believe Irish Setter (division of Red Wing) has some nice ones---and Wolverine probably does too.

I'd never heard of these until reading this. I always felt that Dr. Martens were the iconic shoe of choice. I used to wear those for years but got disenchanted with them when they moved their manufacturing to the Far East, dropped the quality and jacked up the price. Love my Merrell boots though.

These brands are commanding good prices on EBay. I had been looking at them, too, lately. Ended up ordering Clark's ankle boots on EBay, since I don't want to commit to $200 shoes till I see if they suit my "lifestyle" by which I mean rambling out to the shed to feed and play with my FIV cat, Winston, a crochety old Siamese who needs a couple hours of my attention each day. I'm much more interested in chukkas than in watches. But I am debating an iPhone, the watch be damned. I can't see the use.
