My 20-year-long friend Tom the college wrestling coach came over to the house yesterday to see about adopting the neighbor's yellow lab Simba, but Tom's recent neck surgery has rendered him too weak to handle the 120-pound hyper beast.
It was the first time Tom and I talked off-campus in almost a year. I just found out that he had broken up with his girlfriend, which occurred six months ago.
I thought this is pathetic. I know more about what's going on with my Internet friends that my "real brick and mortar flesh and blood" friends.
Then I sat down and came up with ten reasons You Don't Have Friends and decided to do some short YouTube essays on the topic. I think I'll call it Why You Don't Have Friends. It will be part comical but rooted in truth: People are becoming too addicted to social networking and too busy to maintain friendships the way they used to.
I would have posted a YouTube installment already but I don't have a private and quiet room to make a video. My flu-ridden twins are about the place. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday I can get this YouTube series started.
Sounds good - I look forward to it.
