Imagine the stress you'd feel wearing a $2K+ watch that you didn't own and were responsible for.

One of the (perhaps few) worthwhile tidbits of wisdom that Archie Luxury pedals is to always buy used. He's mainly talking about $3K+ watches, but I think it applies in all ranges. The reason being is that you can sell a used watch for close to what you paid for it, sometimes as much or more.

For example, if you buy a $1K Oris new you can sell it for $750 used a year or two later. If you bought it for $750 used, you could sell it for about the same amount and the money lost is mainly just PayPal/Ebay fees. I tend to think that it doesn't matter as much for affordables, but even then the same principle applies.

What's funny is that in a way watch enthusiasts do indeed rent. The Watch Enthusiast Community buys, trades, and sells among themselves. They're very tight-knit and know who's legit and who's not.
