This may be "satire," my friend, but art doesn't deviate very much from life in this case.

True, which is why it is funny. I see Jeff as being in the lineage of Louis CK, Woody Allen, and Larry David: He uses himself, his own neuroses, as self-deprecating comic fodder.

Alright, so it is mere satire, entertainment. Now I'm bored. Can we go back to radios? I loath soap operas.

Fictional Jeff covets the Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph, but he knows he can't afford to buy it, so he comes up with an elaborate scheme to steal one from his local watch shop. His plan goes awry, and he is arrested for felony theft.

When he appears in court, the judge agrees to give him probation, but only if he relinquishes all of his watches, and he agrees never to buy or wear a watch again. He is also ordered to stay 1000 feet from any watch shop. To enforce the latter requirement, he is fitted with a GPS ankle bracelet.

The watch hamster wheel has now spun to a stop.
