Ken has apprised us of this NYT article by Alex Williams, "Are You Man Enough for a Small Watch?"
By small, Williams is referring to watches under 40mm. For me, matters of taste, not manliness, don't allow me to go smaller than a 43mm Seiko SRP307. Size is relative. If you're 6 feet and 235 pounds with 8-inch wrists, a 38mm watch doesn't play right.

I wear a couple older watches that are l35MM, 38MM----some might even be a fraction smaller. Dainty? Maybe. I also have huge watches, up to and including an Invicta Sea Hunter, with crown, 65MM. And I have a lot in between. On the smaller watches: Let us keep in mind, during most of the 20th century, not long ago---a standard mens wristwatch was 35MM, up to 38MM for larger watches. men of all sizes wore these diameters for dress and for sport. The fact that Invicta now puts pocket watches on straps and bracelets doesn't render the older watches unwearable.
