Muganda sounds like some African dictator. Based on your description, I don't think you are a full-blown "muganda". You are obsessed with watches and maybe have a slight tendency towards seeking praise for certain manly acts, but why not? A black-widow can kill you after all (BTW if you really want to kill any insect fast, spray it with some WD40 - the low viscosity liquid penetrates the breathing tubes and the bug suffocates).

The thing is, being a muganda is tolerated in certain circumstances, sometimes even admired. When a guy (or a woman too for that matter) acts in a way that is conspicuously younger than the age they appear, we tell them to snap out of it and retain some dignity. On the other hand there are some Hollywood stars who are in great shape and look young, who could easily get away with having a kick around with some kids. A youthful attitude towards life is often something positive as it means you haven't yet reached that age of screaming at kids to get off your lawn or grumbling at every little thing.

I guess the lesson here is if you want to be a muganda, be so good at it that no one notices.

I always thought of Homer Simpson as an endearing Muganda.

On watch news, I'm torn between the brown and gray dials of the new Benarus Vintage Moray 44mm: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f74/new-benarus-vintage-moray-44mm-1723802-12.html#post14311042

Of the two i'd go for gray, just because it is neutral and kinda stylish. That colour will coordinate with anything you're wearing. I've never been a fan of brown though. Personally, i'd go for the blue because I love the splash of colour it offers. If a watch is the only remotely fancy adornment a man is allowed to wear, might as well go for something that really lifts the spirits.

I think the parallel rise of feminism and a sedentary highly-technological culture both contribute to the man-child phenomenon. A college-educated woman with ambition can easily earn a lot more than a man without a college education. Plus, there are so many high-paying sedentary jobs available now, and men tend not to like sitting in a cubicle all day long. It's very easy for a man to find himself in the low-earner position with a wife who earns so much more, and with excellent benefits. Next thing he knows, he's unintentionally and permanently taken up the role of house husband - in part because it's working for the two. But very few men like this arrangement; nor, in my opinion, is it natural or healthy for marriage and society, as you suggested.

This was an excellent video, Jeff. Even though there's humor in it, there's also a lot of seldom heard truth. But it also begs one question: What place does this sort of public confession of man-childism play in the muganda psychology? Is it more of the same - a sort of crying to others about one's life? A touch of goo-goo gah-gah?
