Ulysses

I find this guy you mentioned to be a curious character. You talked about him as though you admired his unwavering conviction in knowing so soon in his life what he wanted. What kind of tunnel-vision do you need to do something like that? Did his decision-making capabilities peak at the age of eleven, because mine sure didn't. I question any adult who doesn't question his own decisions and seek to optimise and improve his thought processes based on the constantly changing environment and new information. Yes, indecision is problematic and can cause us stress, but it's just as dangerous to think you already know the right answer and being inflexible. A certain captain aboard a certain famous ship was equally convinced by the rightness of his actions and look where it got him.

Ulysses, your criticisms of Heinrich Galutis are accurate. Of course, HG is a mythical, grotesque beast who in some ways mirrors my aspirations and in other ways is my antithesis.

I've enjoyed my SUN019 since I got it in December. I really haven't stressed about the Kinetic battery and it has seemed to do fine. I'm not a huge fan of the standard bracelet but wondering how it will look with a replacement, since the case uniquely incorporates the lugs.

herculodge

Is the case polished or brushed? I'm not sure. But if it's the former, then I'd probably replace with a rubber strap as a brushed bracelet wouldn't match and a polished bracelet would scratch too easily.

You mentioned that you can find this for 365. Please let me know where. I'm really enjoying your posts. I stumbled upon your site a while back and have very similar tastes in watches.

Here's the reputable eBay seller I bought mine from for under 362: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Seiko-SUN019-X-Prospex-Kinetic-GMT-Stainless-Steel-Divers-200M-Mens-Watch-/251650894015?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a978fe8bf

Was into the Kinetic thing earlier in my collecting days - still have the Seiko gunmetal Kinetic you got rid of a year or so ago, If I remember correctly, and it's sitting in my "for sale" pile at the moment - not because it's a Kinetic,, but more because it's essentially a Quartz watch, rather than an automatic.....Seiko has come up with outstanding styling on their Kinetics - your re-acquisition is a great example, but it's just becoming clearer to me that Quartz is just not my esthetic for some reason.....having said that, what still intrigues me just a bit about the Kinetic is it's ability to store its energy for quite a long while vs any Automatic movement.......guess I'm splitting hairs a bit there - starts me thinking about Seiko's Spring Drive movement t, which I at first thought was ridiculous, but have gradually begun to appreciate a bit - that's another discussion altogether.....by the way, this isn't the "Purist" way to wind the Kinetics, but you know you can use an induction charger to run them up to 3-6 months of charge, right ?.....that would let you take it off the regular "forced" rotation and let it sit for a while so it gets to be more fun to wear occasionally and less of a pain.....just a thought.

herculodge

By all accounts, the kinetic charge doesn't last 3-6 months. People who own kinetics and want to get 5 years or more out of the battery have to wear them at least 3 days a week. I've had mine for 4 days and it's about 70% charged. Once it hits 100%, I'll relax a bit and wear it twice a week not including my power walks, which are 4 days a week for 40 minutes.

Angelo

It's too nerve wracking, owning a Kinetic. I came, I wore, I sold.

Charlie

My SKA427 held enough charge to run for around three months, after a pretty good juicing with an induction charger from a dead stop (got tired of wearing it & parked it in the watch box for that long without wearing it) - not really sure about the six months, but had read that in the forums - once you oh have yours charged up, would be interested in your report on how it seems to be holding its charge......Kinetic still interests me a bit with all the new styles.

herculodge

I've had my SUN019 for 5 days and have worn it almost every day, not to mention I've given it 4 35-minute power walks. The second hand is going down to the 4, which means it's two-thirds charged right now. I'm hoping to get the second hand to the 6 in the next few days so I can stop babying it. We shall see.

Gary

Jeff,

You can always use an induction charger (as Charlie mentioned above) once every couple of months. No more "Kinetic stress." In fact, with an induction charger you can own more than one Kinetic and not worry about it.
