Honestly, the first order of business in this exercise would be understanding who the rich guy is and getting to know him. I don't mean physical size in terms of what watch would look good on him----I mean, knowing his personality type----where he socializes----who he socializes with----why he wants to wear a watch. I think a considerable amount of time would need to be invested in that before making even a single recommendation. For many, the easy choice is Rolex. It's a safe, easy choice. They are exceptional watches still. You get the Swiss history----premium automatic movement----iconic style----and if it matters, best resale/easiest resale. Also, Rolex watches tend to look great if you're dressed up or totally casual. Whether it's a board meeting to determine the future of the company----or a day of tennis at the club----the Rolex looks at home on a rich guy's wrist. You mention the Tesla S in your car analogy. Interestingly, if I had 90K to spend on a car, that wouldn't even be anywhere close to my short list. I'd drive almost any premium car over a Tesla, including Kia K9 for God's sake.
