Can a Tier 3 substitute for a Tier 4: absolutely. But it takes a bit of understanding of why we own the watches that we do. If we are trying to impress others with our economic status, then it has to be Tier 4 or 5. But these two watches are Cognoscenti-approved and they possess delights that only watch aficionados can appreciate. The Tuna is a cult in itself, and I image the few people lucky enough to own the Megaladon feel the same way.

So we get back to an old discussion point. Are we buying watches merely to please ourselves, or are we buying them to make a statement about ourselves to others? You know my answer: I really enjoy owning a watch that only WIS appreciate for their inherent watchiness. I just gave away a Movado Museum Watch I was given as a present from my employer nine years ago because I practically never wore the damn thing. It didn't resonate with me, even though the very few times I did wear it it got compliments from the general public because they recognized it as a status symbol.

So wear that Tuna or Megalodon or Sumo with pride and enjoy the small pleasures of watch geekdom.
