Hi Jeff, I believe it's time to seriously reconsider the MM300, and here's the reasons why:
1. It is of a higher quality than your other divers: killer automatic movement, sapphire bezel, top-grade case
2. It's you: a big and very masculine silver and black diver watch that isn't over-the-top like the Benarus, but still very bold and fitting of your physique.
3. It's not pretentious. There is no snob appeal at all with this watch, only cool Watch Obseesive approval from those in the know
4. It is a Tier 3.5 watch, and costs HALF of what the Breitling does.
5. It absolves guilt. It's a Seiko -- a brand which you adore -- and will not make you feel the need to baby it, get an insurance policy rider, or feel self-conscious wearing it in public.
6. It will make you realize that Swiss Tier 4 and 5 watches are not worth the marital discord and let your restless ways be diminished. The never-ending quest for watch happiness can return to a simmer from the boil that has been tormenting you lately.
7. One new MM300 is the about equal to the price of two Tunas. You had three of them at one time earlier this year, so a MM300 can easily be absorbed in your collection without much financial stress.
We all know you could buy a Breitling or an Omega if you put your foot down but it's really you, not your wife, that needs the convincing. I wrote about this when I first joined your group of loyal subscribers. I inherited an E90 BMW once and I hated it. Oh, the car was nice enough in ways that automotive enthusiasts (of which I am one) appreciate, but I didn't like the image it projected about me, my financial status, and above all the stigma of elitism that the brand unfortunately engenders. I think you and you wife would struggle with the notion of a $4500 watch on your wrist, even though Watch Obsessives are egging you on and your dissatisfaction with the revolving door of Tier 3 watches recently is driving you to the brink of madness.
I know you've cooled on the MM300, but I respectfully suggest that you take a hard look at it once again.

Sounds like you need to get one. I like the MM300 but it does not have sapphire. I'd rather get the SBDB011, but those Seikos are too pricey, even used. My Orient Saturation Diver really does fill the bill for that category, especially on my Super Engineer.

Oh, I'm very happy with my Sumo so the MM300 would be a future consideration if I ever have the desire to go to a higher tier. I haven't scratched any of my Hardlex crystals yet, so I think the whole sapphire vs Hardlex issue is an academic one.
No question the OSD is a great watch, but I believe the things you are looking for in a Tier 4 and what the OSD doesn't have is an update in refinement of case, hands, and dial, a brilliant automatic movement, and a nicer sapphire bezel. This can all be found in the MM300 for a much lower price than the average Tier 4 watch. You'd probably replace the bracelet anyway, so the criticism's of the pin and collar system that Seiko uses in the MM300 would be mitigated.
Anyway, I know you looked at the MM300 hard last year, did a video blog about why you lost interest in it, and now circumstances have changed a bit so I believe it deserves another look with reset expectations.

I'd have to wear the MM300 on my wrist before I became a true believer or not. But that MM300 needs sapphire and it doesn't have it.

Bruce Williams did a nice comparison of the MM300 to a Grand Seiko GMT:

Ah never mind -- I see in the comments of Bruce's video that you've already been there, you sly dog you.
