By Pete Thomas Dozens of sperm whales were spotted Monday afternoon off Trump National Golf Club on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, sending marine mammal enthusiasts scrambling to locate them from a boat.
The extremely rare sighting – single foraging males are occasionally spotted, but this is a nursery pod including young whales – comes during a week that has included rare sightings of two types of killer whales in Southland waters.
Harbor Breeze Cruises was with the sperm whales Monday, and Capt. Mike Redlew of the La Espada said the pod exceeded 100 animals.

First radios, then watches, and now whales. All in good fun, I can't wait to see your new whale collection and to hear what your wife will have to say about it.

My wife went out on a whale boat yesterday to see if the superpod was still there, but they were gone. They saw no whales at all, no Orcas, no grays (wrong season), just a beautiful day on the water and a few dolphins.
But the people on the boat vouched for Monday's sperm whale sitings.

Thanks, I'll tell my my wife, who teaches in PV, that the whales are gone. She really wanted to see them.
