In an earlier Consumer Reports issue a couple of months ago the magazine showed what protein powders had the highest amounts of lead, cadmium, and other toxins with Muscle Milk being the worst offender. Now in the September 2010 issue of Consumer Reports we read "The Twelve Most Dangerous Supplements," those alleged "health" supplements that can cause toxicity, nausea, vomiting, liver damage, cardiac arrest, etc. My list of uses and causes is not complete. I am not an herbalist and I have never used any of these supplements and I doubt I ever will.
Here is the list:
1. Aconite: used for join pain; causes nausea, vomiting, among others.
2. Bitter Orange: used for weight loss, congestion, allergies; causes stroke, heart attack, death
3. Chaparral (creosite bush): used for colds, weight loss, inflammation, cancer, detoxification; causes liver and kidney damage.
4. Colloidal Silver: used for fungal infections, psoriasis, Lyme disease; causes bluish skin, kidney damage
5. Coltsfoot (coughwort): used for sore throat, asthma; causes liver damage, cancer
6. Comfrey (blackwort): used for coughs, chest pain, cancer; causes liver damage, cancer
7. Country Mallow: used for congestion, allergies, weight loss, bronchitis; causes heart attack, stroke, death
8. Germanium: used for glaucoma, arthritis, cancer, pain; causes kidney damage, death
9. Greater Celandine: used for soothing the stomach; irritable bowel syndrome, liver disorders, detoxification, cancer; causes liver damage
10. Kava: used for anxiety and Consumer Reports says it may be effective in this regard; however, it causes liver damage.
11. Lobelia (pukeweed): used for coughs, bronchitis, asthma; causes toxicity, fast heartbeat, low blood pressure, coma, death
12. Yohimbe: used for aphrodisiac, chest pain, erectile dysfunction (CR says it may be effective in this regard); causes high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, death
The Consumer Reports article was highly biased and is thoroughly refuted at: http://colloidalsilversecrets.blogspot.com/2010/08/consumer-reports-lists-colloidal-silver.html

This list doesn't do me much good. Tell what products these supplements are in. That would be a real help.
